About

Freya Forestry is a professional information management consultancy and forestry practice founded by Dan Pittman, MLIS, in 2010. Combining a background in anthropology, religious studies and natural resources with over twenty years experience as an information manager implementing quality systems, Freya Forestry is an extension of Dan’s mission to build on the positive relationships woodlot owners have with their land and neighbouring communities. As a woodlot owner himself, Dan understands the inherent worth and irreplaceable value of small non-industrial forest holdings. He is a passionate advocate for family and community forests and the transformative power of woodlot producer, worker and market cooperatives.

From forest-scape design to positive impact restorative operations, Freya Forestry’s unwavering commitment is to help family woodlot owners, residential estates, cooperatives and community forest groups connect with the land in culturally meaningful ways. Sensitive to ecological integrity and historical fidelity while providing ample scope for individual expression, Freya Forestry transforms simple woodlots into exquisitely rich and storied landscapes that reflect the true nature of stewardship.

Freya the Cat

“I see something tasty in the woodshed!”

Freya is a Siberian Forest Cat, one of three closely related northern long hair breeds that include the Norwegian Forest Cat and the Maine Coon Cat. It is said that ancestors of the Maine Coon were likely introduced to North America as mousers aboard European fishing vessels, possibly arriving as early as 1000 A.D. with Viking sailors from Greenland.
